The mission of the Center for Carbon-free Power Integration (CCPI) is to conduct scientific research on power from fluid flows in the environment, evaluate technical methods to convert, transmit and store that power, and to conduct policy analysis of rules to integrate those sources into today’s policy and planning processes.
Carbon Free Our power generation focus is on geophysical fluid flows; for example, surface winds, ocean currents, and geostrophic winds, primarily in large-scale generation facilities rather than smaller distributed ones.
Power Our emphasis is on power, not energy, on geophysical sources of power, and on how fluctuating power flows can be integrated into large-scale electrical power systems.
Integration In the word “Integration” we include power flow integration, which may require transmission or energy storage, and we also include integration into power system decision-making, which requires study of public and institutional reactions and may involve developing different forms of analysis, planning, and regulations.
